About The Red Paintings:

A 5 piece band fronted by singer, song writer and creator Trash McSweeney.

The Streets Fell into my Window - Lyrics:

(Spoken)
Alice was considering
(as well as she could
for the hot sun had made her very sleepy
and very stupid)
whether or not the pleasure of making a daisy chain,
would be worth the bother of getting up to pick the daisies.

When suddenly a white rabbit ran straight past her!
Now there was nothing very odd about that!
Nor did she think it out of the ordinary to hear the rabbit say
"Oh dear, I'm going to be late!"
But! When the rabbit suddenly produced a pocketwatch from out of its
Waistcoast pocket, Alice started to her feet!
For it occured to her then...
she had never before seen a rabbit with either a pocketwatch
or the waistcoat, to put it in!

(Sung)
I read that letter, just last week
you were telling me the darkness had taken you
and it had only lasted a week
I don't know where your saviour is...
Check the backroom
He's writing the book that describes the end
as you're passing this life

(Chorus)
Now I see it, it's a doorway
it's a doorway to my love
Now i see it, it's a doorway,
It's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to....

Little mousy,
what did you see?
Hitlers body was a raincheck given to you.
Now you sit and wait with nothing to do.
You're the innocent we're the uncomplained
Loud knocks at the door
As you're holding onto a chest of drawers,
as you're passing this life

The streets came in.
into my window.
Now the war begins my dear, I'll be holding onto nothing.
The streets came in.
Into my window
Now the war begins my dear, as you're passing this life!

Now I see it, it's a doorway
it's a doorway to my love
Now i see it, it's a doorway,
It's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to....

Now I see it....
It's a doorway, it's a doorway to my love!
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway step from above
Now I see it, it's a doorway, it's a doorway to...

(Spoken)
Down, Down, Down
There was nothing to do
So Alice soon began to talk to herself again (the streets came in)
"Oh Dinah!"
(Into my window.. Now the war begins my dear)
"Oh! How i wish you were here with me."
(I'll be holding onto nothing)
"There are no mice in the air."
(The streets came in)
"But you might catch yourself a bat, I s'pose"
(into my window)
"and bats are very like mice."
(now the war begins my dear)
"But.."
(I'll be holding onto nothing)
"Do cats eat bats?
Do cats eat bats?
Do bats eat.. Cats?"

Official music video for The Red Paintings:

'The Streets Fell into My Window' is the surreal & dark adaptation of the Alice in Wonderland tale set to the orchestral rock music of The Red Paintings. With a strong mix of live action performance, stylized animation and twisted puppetry, 'The Streets Fell into My Window' delivers audiences into a whole new ‘Wonderland’ of unrestrained fantasy and imagination.

Reviews of 'The Revolution Is Never Coming'

“There is nothing to fault in this extraordinary and long awaited long player and it will no doubt bring further international acclaim to the Australian band. 10/10.” -

Tone Deaf

“Like a thrilling manic descent on a violent helter-skelter ride its grandiose absinthe-soaked delirium never wavers.” -

Rolling Stone 4/5

“It takes a minute or two to compose yourself once this album finishes. You'll be left adrenalised, yet exhausted, but in no way ready to give up. Pretty sure I've just witnessed a great moment in music history.” -

Victim of Sound 5/5

“After five long years of hard work, McSweeney has succeeded in producing a record of epic proportions. Musically and thematically lush, The Revolution is Never Coming is a cohesive work of art. With every new listen, the record pulls you in deeper, working its way under your skin and into your bloodstream. How do they achieve this soul-nourishing reaction? Perhaps it’s the union of musicality and heart – a true labour of love. Oh, and the most impressive part? It’s their debut.” -

Space Ship News 10/10

“…This album is overwhelming and terrifying in all the right ways, it pushes you to the brink of isolation but there is a vague sense that just beyond your line of sight there is a safety net to catch you. There is a physical impact when listening to The Revolution Is Never Coming, something that is a rare occurrence in any music these days, let alone from a debut. The English language is lacking when it comes to describing this album; the best advice is just to sit back, strap yourself in and be prepared for one hell of a musical journey In true Red Paintings style, The Revolution Is Never Coming leaves the listener a bit shell shocked after the first play, and well…the second and third ones as well.” –

Hhhhappy Music Blog 5/5

“The range of musical ideas on The Revolution is Never Coming is quite simply, staggering, and will have your head in a spin if you can stand the pace. From the delicate piano and strings of opener 'Vampires Are Chasing Me', to the crushing metal bawling of second track 'Dead Children', and the fairy-folk flitterings of 'Dead Adult's (noticing a pattern here?) the scope is mind boggling. Allow yourself to slide deep into the belly of the beast – it's quite the ride.” –

AAA Backstage 10/10

“… The release is certainly not typical. It’s immediately dark, ethereal, and well, weird… I’ve certainly seen bands get up on stage with matching outfits, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone don a geisha outfit or sea creature/alien costumes. Anyone who has the guts to rock that is pretty awesome. I find myself really admiring their complete rejection of normality. There is something to be admired in doing things in your own unique way and The Revolution is Never Coming is certainly an example of that. In a musical world full of copycats, McSweeney and co should be applauded for their left of centre ways.” –

Adam Not Eve 5/5

LIVE REVIEWS

"The Red Paintings is more than just a live show - it's an entire art exhibition. Seeing The Red Paintings live is an experience like no other. I can't even find the words to describe how I felt after seeing them. I will say this though, it was over all too soon..." -

Victim of Sound

"To describe and understand the experience of The Red Paintings show it’s important to understand the unusual part the whole theatre of the event serves. Rather than the theatre enhancing the listening experience, it’s the listening that enhances the artistic experience." -

This Is Not A Scene

"The Red Paintings are not just another pretentious art-rock band. Put simply, there is no one and nothing else out there like Trash McSweeney and his infinite imagination." -

Space Ship News

"You must, must go into a gig like this with an open mind. The fans (and there were a lot at Brisbane’s Hi Fi), are already in the loop as to what’s the go with The Red Paintings. But if you’re a recent listener such as myself, you’re in for quite a trip. Not only were the band geared up in strange kabuki costumes but they had unusual back-up dancers too. I’m not talking cute girls in glittery frocks. I spied a ninja armed with giant paintbrushes as well as two females. But that shouldn’t be the only thing you take away from this experience. The music is, easily, top notch. Even if you’re not a big fan of the unique mesh of art meets alternative rock, the musicality and intensity these guys bring to their performance is entertaining regardless." -

Tour Info

Orchestral art rockers The Red Paintings are in the midst of an ambitious world tour in support of the release of their debut album ‘The Revolution Is Never Coming’.

After suffering a near-fatal seizure, visionary performer Trash McSweeney now sees colour in music and has set out to share with the world the ideas he has seen and felt. By taking to his guitar, piano and notebook, The Red Paintings were officially born upon the dawn of the new millennium...

Based in Australia, London and Los Angeles – and having been fortunate enough to already tour much of the globe – The Red Paintings are a five-piece group (guitar, violin, cello, bass and drums) whose sound evokes everything from child-like lullabies of the future, to tearing, biting, alternative-rock numbers. Their appeal reaches baroque-pop steam-punks, metal-heads, indie-rock fanatics, and beyond. They incorporate multimedia performance art wherever possible and seek submissions from local artists who paint the band’s live energy onstage in real time. With costumes, conceptual stage shows, live painting and human canvases their performance combines sound and visuals to create an experience that stimulates the senses and minds of the audience.

The debut album ‘The Revolution Is Never Coming’ was 5 years in the making and features a 35-piece orchestra, 22-piece choir, harp players, French horn, Theremin and more across 13 tracks of biting, futuristic alternative rock. Recorded and mixed with the late Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie) in world-class studios around the globe, the band raised donations from fans all over the world to create their vision and have received critical acclaim for their creative vision and ambitious scope.

The band’s heavy touring schedule has been driven by the release of their debut album and latest singles/music videos ‘You’re Not One Of Them’ and ‘Wasps’. Both singles have charted in UK, Europe, USA and Australia.
